First and foremost, North Carolina is a better team, however Villanova is a terrible matchup for the Heels. Villanova has the quickness and defensive tenacity to neutralize North Carolina’s size and post scoring. And, Villanova’s prowess off the bounce will be very difficult for North Carolina to stop.

The blueprint is simple, play the Heels man-to-man, and when the ball is thrown to the post, double teams should immediately come. In other words, do not double team the post when the player has the ball. Double team the player when the ball is in the air coming to the post. Hence the post player will have a more difficult time finding the open man, because the double teams are coming from various positions on the court.

On the offensive side, spread North Carolina out, and make their Big Men defend smaller and quicker players on the perimeter. Villanova’s quickness and perimeter scorers have a decisive advantage off the bounce. This advantage could lead to major foul trouble for North Carolina.

Because Villanova is one of the best free throw shooting teams in College basketball, and because Villanova is peaking at the right time, I believe Villanova will beat North Carolina by at least 8-points. NOVA 76 and the Heels 68. The Big East reigns supreme.
