Tim Krueger of BlueJay Banter shared the following:
How well are the Jays defending vs last year
1- night and day better. This is coach Max's best defensive team even though they are undersized. Even though they lost to Nova they played terrific defense. And the job they did Howard when they played Marquette was tremendous
Is Zegarowski the engine that makes CU go? Is he becoming a leader?
2- yes and yes. Late shot clock the ball is more and more getting in his hands rather than Alexander. He hadn't shot the ball well lately as he has logged a lot of minutes
What kind of players are Jefferson and Mahoney?
3- very similar players. Both 6-4, 6-5 very strong guys who are built. They play the 4 so often times are up against bigger players. Similar games but Jefferson a better shooter but Mahoney loves taking to the rack and getting to the line.
Ballach has the super green light. Does he always deliver?
4- one of the best shooters in the country. Can shoot it from anywhere and has become a consistent 3 pt guy. But this year has started to take it to the hole as guys run out on him. Has made him even a more effective player. The 3 point line being moved back has had zero effect on Ballock
Do the Jays need more from the center position to make a deep NCAA run?
5- One would think so. But with Mahoney getting eligible for semester CU can go very small. This has caused matchup problems for opponents like it did with Marquette. But yes Bishop has stretches where he disappears and doesn't play aggressively enough. Kelvin Jones has been a adequate backup and gives the Jays some size but is foul prone. Losing Epperson before the season started to a broken leg was a huge blow to post depth
