from waht i saw last night vs butler:

x's offense -

they again showed an ability to score however you need it...at the rim on left box posts from stains and reynolds, mid range action, at the rim on drives, long distance.

they had been doing a lot of four around one with the big being stains (qb), or reynolds. last night they did that, but also rocked two bigs, on either side of the lane (think almost flex without the cuts but with some screening), where they even iso'ed sometimes.

hoya response -

don't get chumped. need both of the bigs NOT in foul trouble. hops and johs have to avoid the stupid foul. don't let reynolds get into their head, as he has done...first game he beasted. crowd reynolds' right arm, as that's where the shot seems to come from (over either shoulder). push he and stains away from the hoop, making them start their moves from 15 feet as opposed to seven.

rock the man..but throw in some zone action. x is too good imo not to have to adjust to what you are doing defensively. some 3/4 qt press action PERIODICALLY would help also

x defense -

they primarily went man, but did show some 1-3-1 in their comeback. in man they clogged the lane..which the hoyas should expect. in that regard, skip it to the opposite side...shift the defense.

the deep corners and baseline should be attacked vs 1-3-1..high low for the latter.

x-transition

to me, jumps ahead when that abel guy joins the davis guys...which means they have gone small. when that happens, of course get back, but PUNISH them with dsr, wings posting smaller guys. btw though abel killed them with hustle and defense second game.

x's x factor -

this reynolds guy. scored in double figures. without that, x loses. in fact when he's a force, x most likely seems to win. this guy is a coo coo bird, so go at him. don't let him get started. maybe talk, but tht might just get him started.

x factor 2 -

this farr guy. not as much a scorer, but will rebound and be a presence. plays when they go two bigs and stains, reynolds is on the bench.

attack this guy with smaller wings. in fact, the wings MUST get off. that's copes, pw, bowen, tray, peak. two of those five must be in double figures...at least. and ahve five rebounds

hoya x factor...

hops. is the team's best interior defender and rebounder. hoyas need him on the floor. has to make his foul shots (could be targeted) and LAY UPS. if he's 8-12 points, 8-10 boards, hoyas have good chance of winning.

think josh and stains almost cancel each other out...unless josh plays like he did down stretch last night. need that.

dsr is dsr..they will try and get ball out of his hands. he'll still score well.

hoya x factor 2...

tc. a few threes could really give hoyas bump in close game.

and they need his transition pushing and 94 feet picking up.

fatigue -

hopefully x feels it. overtime game that finished damn near midnight.
