Since LP posted about Simmons movie . . . .
I have not seen the Simmons documentary on Showtime, but I have seen the Lenny Cooke documentary (also downloadable at Vimeo). This is excellent. If you are a hoops fan, you will love the Lenny Cooke movie. Lots of similarities to Hoop Dreams but Lenny was a much more highly sought after prospect than Gates or Agee ever were. Really good.
I also read the Boys of Dunbar book, which I thought was good. It seemed to be a bit overly focused on Mugsy Bogues, perhaps at the expense of information on guys like Reggie and Gate, but I really enjoyed it and so did my friend who I gave it to after I was done reading it. I have seen some great HS basketball teams play live, including Flint Hill with D. Scott and S. Jefferson, Dobbins Tech with Gathers and Kimble, DeMatha with Ferry and Mustaf, Dominguez High with Tyson Chandler, Chino Hills with the Lonzo Ball brothers, and many others. I wish I had the chance to see this team play live.
