1) how would you rate Syracuse’s 2-3 zone to date?

This year’s zone in some cases you can say it might be one of the worst in recent years, but then when you look at the overall numbers it has not been that bad. This current team struggles to defend the three point line. They allow a lot of open looks and even the times the see a shooter they may not get a hand up in time.

Inside it is still tough to get in to the teeth of the zone to make plays. The Orange this year has a very long and athletic zone that closes passing lanes very quick.

With that said there are more chances this year to score against the Orange than in seasons past.

2) is the team getting beat in transition? are they scoring in transition?

When it comes to transition defense the Orange are always a tough team to beat down the court because the zone always leaves somebody back. Then you add in the size they have and athletic ability they can fly down the court to stop a play at the rim or force the other team to bring the ball back out and reset.

Offensively, even though they have the skill set to run Syracuse has not run as much recently. They have to guards in Frank Howard and John Gillon that can push the tempo, but again probably do not do it as much as they could. With that being said if the Hoyas fell asleep on defense the Orange could start to capitalize on a few plays.

3) is there a go to this year? Tyler?

There are really two go to guys on the team this years, Andrew White and Tyler Lydon. White has been off to the better start, but Lydon is still a player that knows how to score. Outside of those two players the Orange have not had a problem getting scoring from others this season. White might lead the Orange in scoring but any night they seven other players who can go off.

4) is there enough guard depth to handle pressure? can the orange handle pressure generally?

Syracuse has guard depth with Frank Howard, John Gillon, Tyus Battle and Andrew White. They have not seen extensive pressure this season, but do have the horses to break the press. Once they press is broken the Orange have the ability to score inside and out. With such a limited sample size though seeing them pressed they have done well.

5) have the transfers impacted favorably?

Yes and no. On offense Andrew White and John Gillon have been as expected. Defensively it has taken them longer to get used to their roles in the zone. They both have had plenty of lapses and that could remain a problem going forward.
