johnnies like to iso. that and how to defend:

Hayes

"we just have to have everybody's back. like you said they like to string us out and put me on an island. but my teammates will have my back and we've been working on it in practice".

Jt3

they are putting pressure vjia iso...is it important for you to win on ball?

"Yeah it is. It's a one on one challenge as well as a team challnge. And I think they do a good job of getting movement and motion and then, boom, there's an isolation.

"And so you have to be...attentive - I"m not chasing my man at the meantime the ball's over there and he's going one on one. We have to find a way to play good team defense and have our defensive rotations down and support each other, and at the same time know each pass could end up being another isolation for that person.

Riyan Williams

important to win on ball?

"it's very important. i know Coach Thompson has been preaching all year, 'Keep chasing'. I know ususlly when we get hit by ball screens we get stuck and stop. But if we keep chasing then we have a chanced to hit the ball from behind or get ...help from the weakside defender. if we keep chasing all the ball screens, we'll be good".

on their match up zone

Jt3

is it the same as last year's johnnie match up zone

"no, t's different. it is different...You don't know, your'e not sure exactly what they're in; what they try and do is lull you into spending half the possession trying to figure out what are they in, and then all of the sudden there's seven seconds on the shot clock.

"And so you just have to be aggressive, regardless of what sets you're trying to run".

hayes

"t's a pretty good defense. I think we're a pre3tty good offensive team, i think we can handle that kind of well. We'll see what happens"

is patience important vs it?

"Very important. You have to make the right read at the right time and find the open person".

what happens when they ice or push dribbler to baseline on one side of court, on ball screens?

dsr

what is your reaction to icing?

"read and respond. depends on what's open. i just take what they give me".

hayes

what is your role in handling icing?.

"i'm just a pressure release that's all...get the ball and go back in the offense".
