nothing earth shattering here but credit goes to Dana O'Neil of The National and nice to be talked about more and more these days I suppose

(Ron feel free to delete if this violates any rules):

Let’s talk Big East, specifically Georgetown. Are they going to bring some oomph back to the Big East soon? They just delivered a good recruit from the D.C. Catholic League. Can they take the next step this season and give Jay Wright’s back a break? He’s been carrying the conference for far too long — James O.

Any thoughts on Year 3 of the Patrick Ewing era at Georgetown? Are they ready to make the leap this year, or will it be another year of incremental progress toward a return to meaningful games in March? — Dylan H.

That there are multiple Georgetown questions alone speaks to the job that Patrick Ewing has done. Count me among the converts. I was skeptical about the Ewing hire, concerned that perhaps Georgetown would follow the St. John’s path of Chris Mullins’ debacle. Instead, I was quickly sold. It’s been clear from the jump he wasn’t looking for an easy figurehead/retirement gig and was in the actual business of coaching. He’s done the obvious, injecting Georgetown with some nostalgic energy, but he’s also made the Hoyas — as in the players — better.

So with that backdrop, I’ll add what I’ve been saying all summer: I believe the Hoyas are a dangerous outlier this year. That’s both nationally (I don’t think it’s a stretch to put them in the preseason Top 25) and in a retooling Big East. Mac McClung, James Akinjo and Josh LeBlanc are back, and Omer Yurtseven, the transfer from N.C. State, is eligible. Meanwhile, Marquette is trying to recreate itself sans the Hausers and Villanova is incredibly young.

I say Georgetown not only makes the NCAA Tournament this year but also wins a game.
