this is on doubling wahab in the second half

Seeing Double

After accounting for five points and two boards in just 12 minutes of first half play, sophomore Qudus Wahab saw immediate double teams by WVU to start the second frame. While Wahab added four points and seven rebounds to his final total in the back stanza, facing multiple players intent on stopping him simultaneously seemed to throw him and G’Town off.

Ewing was miffed as to why, acknowledging the double teams, but countering “we work on it every day”, as such should have been handled better. Ultimately Ewing thought “Our execution just wasn’t’ right”.

His WVU counterpart, Bob Huggins, revealed the impact of doubling Wahab was somewhat negative, as “Getting Gabe his fourth foul was the end result”. That would be senior forward Gabe Osabuhien.

In Huggins’ mind throwing two guys at Wahab “was more a reaction than anything else”, one that was dicey as he valued having either Osabuhien or junior center Derek Culver between the lines, and using them in double teams exposed his guys to fouls.
