johnnies offensively

high screening, five out offense. in fact they are pretty much always five out vs man.
---they are gonna involve hoya bigs in ball screen action. the gu guards should go underneath it, as the johnnies shoot sub 30% on threes. sag and help on the drives.

clark can hit them regularly though. he's good in horns (with yakwe) also, where he pops for shots or drives. vs zone, he's excellent in the middle, as he's strong enough to drive, make plays, shoot in traffic.
---worried about this guy. derrickson has to step up and guard him. communicate...if it's zone, deny that interior pass.

for simon, screen/wall off for him to get down hill. he's really not a shooter, but had career high vs x.
---so go under screens or if it's not the bigs, switch. make him shoot. keep him out the lane.

despite short bench, they will push
--simply get back. make sju make decision. owens can trail and hit threes...so don't lose him. ponds generally is going to the rack on the break. so is simon.

ponds can explode for points. is not a real shooter, but will hit shots. really good driver, where he normally tries to score
---even if he's standing around (plays better with ball in hands imo), stay connected to him. also make him defend, to tire. respect this guy.

trimble can hit the three
---don't fall asleep on him

in addition to owens as a trailer, he slips to the cup well. they even run a two man pick and roll game with him. can also pick and pop
---skinny guy. have to bang him around. communicate on those switches...even if you double the ball, have SOMEONE help out the trapping big. it's been a situation with that for the hoyas

johnnies defensively

showed 1 2 2 back to a match up zone. had played more zone to protect bench, but not vs xavier. main defense was man.
---if it's zone, attack middle, maybe high low it or short corner. rerversal to opposite side, including out of overload should be open. these guys are not disciplined defensively

owens is a good shot blocker...weak and strong side.
--get into his body. bang him. attack him.

johnnies will give you chances in transition, via gaffes
---points exist here. be consistent. also, it could tire them, as seemingly happened vs x. points can be had in transition!

backline vs kanter was terrible
---shouldn't the hoyas go there? yes! but guards will have to get bigs the ball. in fact, bang the ball inside. they have NO real answer for derrickson/govan. they HAVE to feast.

expect some pick and pops...with a smaller lineup both derrickson/govan WILL have pick and pop looks. they have to can them

generally

they have minimum depth...8 schollie guys.
---push the ball, bang these guys, wear them down

if hoyas don't dominate boards, its a problem. the glass should be theirs! contact foes, then go for the ball

like any team outside shots will be necessary, as the johnnies are gonna pack it in.
