Getting Things Together

Ewing:

"Bottomline we have to win. By any means necessary. We can't keep making the same mistakes and talk about we have to learn from our mistakes. Obviously we are not learning from them. We're watching film, we're showing them the mistakes that they're making, that we're making, and we're still not learning

"I don't see anything else that we can do. This aint the NBA where you can trade and get other players in. These guys have to learn. These guys lock in And us as a staff have to come up with something else that might help them be successfu"l.

Stickage

Had 10 assists on 28 points. Ball stuck. Ewing:

"that's something we've been saying all along, for us to be successful you have to have ball movement body movement and ball movement. That's when we're playing well, during that stgretch in the Texas Tech game, that's how we got back into the game, we were having ball movement and body movement.

"And it's not just me standing there yelling 'Move it. Move it'. You know, they have to be willing to do that".

Heady Game

Paris:

"So for our guys to value those on both sides of the ball, i thought (was good). Defensively we had a smaller lineup in there. At times we were playing chess back and forth. Coach Ewing brings Wahab late back in the game, so we had to make a decision of we were going to stay small or go bigf".

Last Shot

Ewing on what he dialed up to get Brandon Murray a shot with 11 seconds in overtime,

"We got a great shot, we got what we wanted....a hammer screen on the weakside. Primo as able to drive and kick the ball to Brandon for a wide open three. We just didn't make it".

1) How has super young player GG Jackson acclimated to the college game? is he ready to be USC's lead guy?

South Carolina has the distinction of starting the youngest player in the NCAA this season, with 17-year-old G.G. Jackson playing the majority of every game thus far. It's hard to say whether he's truly ready to be the lead guy, but he's sort of being forced to, and to a great degree, he's answered the challenge, averaging 32 minutes, and 16.3 points with another 7.4 rebounds per game. That said, the trip to D.C. did not get off on the right foot for Jackson, who had his worst game of his short career on Wednesday at George Washington. His stat-line still ended up decently enough, 11 points and 6 rebounds, but he started the game just 1-10 from the floor, and never seemed to really get into a rhythm. That's going to happen from time to time, but outside of some timely shooting at times from Chico Carter Jr. there has been a consistent struggle to get points throughout the season thus far, with the Gamecocks averaging just 62.3 points per game, while giving up 71.4. It's easy to see why their only decent win thus far was a home game vs. Clemson which is looking more and more like a fluke as the season wears on.

2) Defensively, how do the 'Cocks play?

Not well so far. No, I know that's not the question you are asking. They've changed up their defensive looks a few times, mostly because not much has worked. They ran some 1-3-1 on Wednesday with moderate success, but they've really struggled to defend on the perimeter, with any team that has decent outside shooting getting open looks consistently. Once those start to fall, the bigs start to cheat outside, leaving lanes for teams to attack South Carolina on the inside. Another thing they've struggled with is athletic guard play. They simple don't have the speed on the perimeter to cut off those lanes. If Georgetown can get Primo Spears going, it's going to be a long night for South Carolina.

3) Offensively, what do they do?

Offensively, Coach Lamont Paris likes to play a bit of a free-flowing style, letting his playmakers create their own shot, and he's attempting to construct a roster where everyone has the ability to take jump shots, even the bigs. That's had mixed results thus far. When G.G. Jackson and Hayden Brown have been able to knock down shots, they've found a way to get into a rhythm, but they are still badly missing consistently from the PG position. PG Meechie Johnson missed several games with an injury, and didn't quite look like himself on Wednesday. If he can get going again, I think the offensive production will follow, but we've seen that when he's absent or struggles, manufacturing consistent offense has been hard to come by.

South Carolina

I have not watched the last two games (UMBC and TT). No regrets either.
Believe it or not, this game is winnable. They have been struggling big time. Shows how good a coach Frank Martin was. New coach Lamont Paris has started weakly just like Neptune at Nova, but without the injuries as an excuse. They are 2-4 and three of their losses are blowouts(to GW, Furman and Colorado State) and they have not beaten anyone that impressive. Best win was against rival Clemson.
Swing GG Jackson is their guy. Will be the best player on the floor for either team. Very versatile scorer. CHico Carter Junior can hit the 3 and is a solid 2 guard (you may remember him from Murray State). Aftet that, they do not have much offensively Not sure how they defend. SInce I will already be watching WOrld Cup soccer, I will ikely tune into this one and hope we can get a win. Ron might be able to add more on USC, but this is a game they should win (but we can say the same for American. Northwestern and LMU as well).

I do not know what Wahab's injury is but I hope that Patrick is willing to play the two other posts and sure seems like Denver is ready to take more minutes from Health and Primo and can even sub in for Murray. I also hope he mixes the defenses some I would really like to see us start playing 10-11 guys such that Dikembe and Ezewiro each get 5-7 minutes and Wahab is limited to 20-25; Mozone can get 8 minutes to 10 minutes coming in for Akok. Murray should play 30 minutes but no reason that Riley and Bristol can spell Murray with 5 minutes each a game. Finally Denver needs to see 8-10 minutes minimum to give Heath and PRimo a rest and Riley can grab a few extra minutes spelling these guys as well. I believe generally:
Wahab should be limited to 20-25 minutes,
Akok should be at 25
Murray, Health and Primo should each be playing around 27-30
That leaves 15-20 minutes of bench time at the 5, 15 minutes at the 4 and 30-35 minutes at any of the three guard spots (total of 60 minutes or so of total time for the bench).
I am still very pessimistic about the season, but we have a legitimate chance to beat an SEC team this weekend and these days that is a positive.

what they do: Texas Tech

network share: Texas Tech

from justin apodaca reporter, red raider sports

1) From watching 1.5 halves of TY ball its evident they are defensive oriented.

What defenses do they run? I don't remember much pressing just 94 foot pick up. accurate ?

That's been the MO under Mark Adams, and even Chris Beard, a defensive-focused team that runs the no-middle defense. The Red Raiders do a ton of switching on the defensive end, which can lead to mismatches, it also leads to the three-ball being a good way to beat them. Tech had one of the best defenses in the nation last season, but they are not where Adams wants them to be as of yet.

2) Offensively it seems as if TT is not a perimeter shooting team, with frosh Pops Isaacs being the only knockdown type guy. Accurate?

Pop Isaacs has been excellent to start the season as a true freshman out of Las Vegas, Nevada, and is definitely the best shooter on the team. However, Kevin Obanor can shoot the ball from beyond the arc at a streaky pace along with North Carolina transfer Kerwin Walton, who was heralded as a three-point shooter when he transfered.

3) Tell me more about this Uber athletic, tall Frenchman.

Daniel Batcho has taken so many steps this season, it is truly astonishing. Last season, he looked slow and didn't move laterally very well, this year, it's a completely different story. Batcho was key for the Red Raiders in Maui, despite the outcome, and they desperately needed it with the absence of Utah Valley transfer, Fardaws Aimaq.

4) People have called TT "grown men" around the Hoyas' program. Accurate?

I would push back on this notion a little. This team is very young, with five true freshmen and only returning three (Obanor, Batcho, KJ Allen) from last season's Sweet Sixteen team. Physically, however, they are pretty built, despite lacking some length at times if Batcho gets in foul trouble.

5) How would you stop TT?

I think the formula hasn't changed much since last season. Teams found success by shooting the three well and out rebounding the Red Raiders on the offensive boards. If a team is able to score a ton of points, they will have a good chance of winning, even though that's a hell of a challenge.

6) Does the school have an inferiority complex so to speak, as Texas amd Texas A&M seem to get the shine down there? Many times TT seems forgotten.

I wouldn't say so but there is definitely dislike of both schools from the students and alumni. On paper, Texas and Texas A&M both have more funding for athletics and academics. The UT & A&M systems are definitely larger than Tech's, but the Tech system has done some catching up. It could be the echo-chamber of being in Lubbock, but I don't feel the sentiment that Tech goes forgotten.

this and that: umbc

article is being finalized, up front

so, umbc rang up shooting numbers of 42.86% overall, 33.3% on three pointers. Ferry's guys were hot.

Not so much in the second quarter, where the retrievers only managed 24.24% from the field, 31.25% beyond the arc.

it was apparent the Hoyas started arriving on the catching, forcing UMES guys to shoot under more duress.

"We wanted to run them off their spots" confirmed the coach. "We knew the only way they could beat us (was through making threes)....made some in the first half...we did much better job second half...in the end though they were able to makes some big ones".

Jim Ferry, UMES's HC, attributed the swoon at least in part to what his guys were doing, or not doing.

"i thought we played the right way in the first half - play inside out, see if we can play kickouts for shots. played the right way..inside and out, play at our pace - which i thought we did a really good job of.

"Beginning of the second half, you really have to give Georgetown credit, give Pat credit, he's really been getting some flack...finishing second halves. I thought they came out the aggressor in the second half.

"I thought on both ends we stopped doing what we were doing in the first half. They distorted us. We got a little strung out defensively instead of really tight and packing in. Offensively I thought we got away from what we were doing and tried to force it a little bit to the rim....(did UMbc) make a layup today? They either blocked it our we missed it. So our best offense was kind of spraying it, and we got away from that a little bit".

Ferry still dapped the Hoyas for their defensive strapping, saying "You have to give Georgetown credit for it. They really came after us, stepped up their defensive pressure...What did we go, seven minutes without scoring? it's hard to win (with that). Like I keep saying this aint soccer".

Sinking Ship

Freeman will not come to Gtown. Quite frankly neither will most other recruits. I cannot imagine Miranda here (although Louisville looks almost as bad). Transfers will not want to be here. That is the problem even if Ewing and the current staff have the ability to pull us out of this (and I do not believe that he/tney do, for the record), he is handcuffed by the last 18 months. The only solution is to start over. Short of another miraculous BE title run this program is cooked, not just for this season but for next too, if it does not bring a new regime in. I am amazed at what Otzelberger has done at ISU and hoping we can have a similar resurgence, but we need new people at the top to do so

What can we do?

Serious question. Do we have any recourse along with all the other Georgetown communities out there? I used to donate but I'm a minnow. However my donations were earmarked for the HHC and basketball. I know there are other donors or former in this community here (Hoya1, Pennstalum, CTHoya to name a few).

Do we start a lame online petition?

Do we try to get some groundswell of a social media campaign. Twitter is already going nuts over Ewing.

I mean we as a group are so desperate for a good team that we continue to care (although I'm rapidly losing interest).

What is it going to take to get Ewing and the Chief of Staff out of the building. Clearly it's utterly not failing at their jobs. Clearly it's not abysmal season ticket sales. Clearly it's not paltry crowds. Clearly it's not lack of any national interest. Clearly it's not the worst season in Big East history. Clearly it's not one of the most distressing attrition rates in the country. Where do we go.

I think at least a player or two will portal in the coming weeks. I hope it's a mass exodus. It's going to take something catastrophic.

I mean this coach has survived criminal activities in his program, very little success, a terrible product and a host of other things.
