Successful NCAA tournament teams dictate to opposing teams instead of reacting to them. That's why teams that press usually have more success in the tournament. By dictating the style of play and how games will be played teams greatly influence the eventual outcome.

Because of Paul White's size, length and skill he creates a favorable mismatch for the Hoyas in both man-to-man and zone situations. Very few teams in college basketball have a small forward with the skill and basketball IQ of White. In man-to-man situations White has the size and length to post opposing forwards, and he's also skilled enough to score from the perimeter. If opposing teams play zone White is very adept from the free throw line at scoring or passing to either the post or open wing.

Therefore, Georgetown has the ability to dictate and impose their will on opposing teams with White in the starting lineup. Many of the early round exits were due to Georgetown reacting rather than dictating to a less talented team. The NCAA tournament is about matchups and adjustments. If one team has an advantage they should force the opposing team to adjust. Teams that win championships in college basketball dictate style of play and adjust to their opponents. By inserting Paul White into the starting lineup the Hoyas will create more favorable matchups and start to dictate rather than react to teams in the NCAA tournament.
