I see he might be getting paroled. For those of you who don't know the story, Rayful was a very good local basketball player who became a huge DC drug kingpin in his 20's. He was hanging out with some of the Hoyas (specifically John Turner and Alonzo Mourning) due to his hoop connections.
Well Pops put the word out that he wanted a face to face with Edmond. Within a short time, Rayful was at McDonough meeting with Pops -- the result being that Rayful no longer hung out with Hoya hoopers. Imagine the power Pops had to pull that move off. The huevos on that man!!!!
One evening I remember waiting out all night for tickets to the Elite 8 and a limo pulling up at around 2 in the morning and John Turner hopping out in full view of everyone. I'm sure Marc (Hoya1) and possibly even Mark (laidbackcoach) remember this as well.
Also Charles Smith and Bobby WInston (two local Hoyas) told us all that Rayful could have legitimately played high major basketball.
Interesting times for sure. Maybe Ron and some of the older local guys have their own memories.
