follow:

offensively

the johnnies initiate many sets out of ponds, a lefty in ball screen action, which can also take form of double high screen. they like to get him in the seams, where he normally shoots

owens screens, then spaces, where he hits the corner/flank and normally shoots jumpers.

lovette, a lefty will drive and spot up. less a pg than ponds, but honestly neither really is. ball sharing is not high

sju loves to spread the floor with five out type action. allows the guads, plus slashir bashir to drive better.

will also run floppy stuff for one of the guards to get ball 17 feet iso'ed. they have no real interior scoring presence.

sum: mullin is STILL stressing isolation ball. STILl imo, is too much for his guys. the guards are dangerous, but those dudes and others are taking HARD shots. constantly.

defensively

vs creighton man. token pressure early on to slow the blue jays down.

What hoyas should do:

pound ball inside. don't get away from it...the johnnies can't answer.

show multiple looks on ball screen action; those guards are young and will adapt to what you are doing. meaning soft hedge/zone, hard hedge/blitz and switch. might want to go over the screen with fairly hard hedge, as i don't think the johnnie bigs can really catch and finish like that off of difficult passes.

the johnnies are gonna try and run, so hoyas MUST get back. not having tc, though many fans are frustrated with him, might hurt, as he gives the team backcourt depth and steadies things.

be sure to track this owens guy. his shooting out of pick and pop could be crucial.
