Injuries and 2024 HS recruiting

Injuries are a huge problem. We are a much better team with Epps sorber and julius. That is so obvious. We are playing without 3 of our top 8 guys.

What is being exposed and not as obvious is that this 2024 hs recruiting class is apparently not nearly as deep/strong as touted. Drew McKenna and Mulready are not ready to play big time college basketball 🏀.

These guys were both top 100 four star recruits (88 and 57 respectively) yet they are ineffective at this level so far. Without the injuries this is immaterial. With the injuries it is a huge issue.

One of the following must occur for us to be respectable

1. We must get sorber and Epps healthy and fast
2. McKenna and Mulready need to start living up to their potential and improving the way Curtis Williams has.

practice notes: 1.15.24

so it was a short session...basically exposed the cats to what depaul does. walk thrus. ft shooting and 2 man shooting. then film. then done.

good as their bodies are banged up.

blaney wasn't there. per sm and connecting dotes, he was likely in jersey recruiting.

in fact, i met the coaches with their luggage going up to the offices...they, kids and admin literally arrived minutes before i did. they had just taken the train from nyc, it was late. stayed over to get the kids some rest.

Ewing...big coach...jarvis..red auerbach

1) aureback and big John were friends since rhe Celtics

2) aurebach determined to help john...by making sure he got Ewing

3) consideration was passed...incl to jarvis, Ewings hs coach. This included jarvis eventually becoming gtowns coach

4) like 3 yrs later, aurebach helped jarvis get to Boston u

5) some years afterward, aurebach got jarbis to his feifdom...gw

6) John kept holding on at gu

70 shots

i think blaney had the scout

rebounding was the word of the day. multiple drills, constantly coached.

really good shooting session...particularly early
Cooley's early address
Make a play on the ball, and go get the ball
on turnovers; thomas had 8 of them

I'd rather you shoot it than throw it away.

go meet the ballQ

if you see his nubmers, throw it at his face.

read the defense. be tetter with the ball

Xavier

With Freemantle and Traore both out, Xavier is really small. I mean outside of Swain (6'5") and Hunter (6'7") they have no size. Sorber and Fielder have a chance to build on what they did v. Coppin State inside. However, X can really shoot the ball. Three starters are all EXCELLENT from 3 (Foster, McKnight and Conwell). They shot better than 50% from 3 v. UCONN and took them to overtime. As we all know, we historically have had trouble guarding the 3. Should be an interesting contrast and if we can somehow keep them from having a strong shooting game, and we can cut down on our recent turnover trend, we should have a good chance to win it.
