unfortunately based on just one game, the zaga affair.

coaching feelers haven't been returned. i'm gonna remember that too. hahaha

Key Personnel

Derek Culver (15.8 ppg, 11.8 rpg) – A main scoring guy. Will face and go either way. Jump hooks over right shoulder. Lefty, also pulls up from 15 ft. Ducks in and finishes. Loves going over right shoulder. . Ducks in and finishes.

…Double him! Dig down on him also. Double from angels. Incl on catch. Make him play defense, has tendency to swipe down defensively.

Oscar Tshiebwe (9.3 ppg, 8.8 rpg) – Rough and tumble guy will post, going over left shoulder. Range is 5-7 feet or so. Rebounding machine. Physical. Always rolls to basket, not a shooter

….box this guy out. Go at him as he’s a foul machine. Sag off him, make him shoot

Miles McBride (14.3 ppg, 3.7 a pg) – A main scoring guy. point guard that also plays the two. Kind of physical. Shoots on and off the ball. Pulls up and spots up.

…at times jump him. Make him play under duress. Maybe Carey/Harris can hound him.

Sean McNeil (11 ppg) – Shooter who is looking to pull from deep including on break.

…run him off the line. Make him a ball patter.

Taz Sherman (11.8 ppg) – Shooter who can put it on deck. Will drop off also.

…be aware of this guy. Don’t sleep

Offensively

They go mostly inside out, with McBride driving, Mcneil/Sherman shooting 3’s. Culver is top interior target. Tshiebwe is basically a stick back or drop off guy. Cottrell and shoot and post, but is frosh and doesn’t take that many iminutes/shots

Kind of five out, with duck ins/paint curls for bigs, opposite drives for others. At end of possession, they are getting three, four in/around paint. These guys crash the glass and pass into interior from close well

Ran staggers/floppy for Taz Sherman.

Not much of a Fastbreak team as previously.

….Double Culver in post. I would run some zone, and pack in man. Don’t give them that inside base to branch off. You have to hit the defensive glass hard.

….press them some. Not the most proficient guards in that regard. Also apply pressure on McBride, make him be more of a distributor under duress.

…trap guys on the wings from time to time.

….stay aware of shooters. If you get caught in recovery, run them off the line and make them pat ball.

….take charges. Their guards are good, but no so crafty. You can draw charges

… Take charges. They over penetrate with guards who are not great finishers

…Go at big men. Posts, back cuts, drives, they swipte down too much and get dumb fouls. Iso back down them with Wahab/Tim. Culver and Tish will reach

…Move the ball. And be strong with movements.

….fastbreak on these cats. They got back vs Zaga, but didn’t always stop ball.

…on wing overplays, backcut. It’s there. Plus it makes their bigs defend

Defensively

They are a man to man team. Their base is kind of an overplay, though they will help side in lane at times.

Not Press Virginia. Though expect periodic traps at top of key.

…. Mix in zone and full court pressure . the latter was effective for Zags. Not super efficient guard wise. Durress them.

…In man pack it and make them shoot.

…Take charges. They overpenetrate too much (guards)

Hustle/Effort

They eat, eat glass. Physical team.

….crash. box out on every play. Its hard, but Culver and Tish have to be hit. Tim, Wahab, even a Pickett must rebound. This is not rocket science Ewing expects team rebounding (see pregame presser)

….want the ball. Many of them do. Go get it Pickett, Blair, others.

…have to win 50-50’s. That’s about hustle and effort.
