from ryan murray, rivals' cuse guy:
How is Syracuse's frontcourt adjusting to losing Christmas?
Syracuse’s frontcourt is hurting this season. They have DaJuan Coleman back from injury, but he is not living up to expectations and the other option right now is Tyler Lydon, The young freshman has a lot of potential, but it is not at the 5. He is to thin to be impactful on defense if he is going up against a true center. For Syracuse to do well DaJuan Coleman really needs to step up.
Is Gbinije a true PG?
Michael Gbinije is not a true point guard, but he is very versatile. He has always had solid dribbling skills, but his game is more for a three. The good thing about him now is that this is his third year in the role and he has now realized he is a complete mismatch for the guards that check him on defense. At the start of this year he looks the most comfortable on the court than he has ever looked.
How long is the 'Cuse bench?
The Orange bench is almost as long as this response. It is short and only going to get shorter as the season goes on. Lydon is the sixth man and Kaleb Joseph will see sometime. After those two guys you may not see anybody else.
Regarding the 2-3, does the team have the length normally seen at Syracuse, and if not how is the program adjusting to that?
The length in the zone is there. When Lydon is in at the five the zone is more active than it has been in awhile. The problem comes though when it is time to rebound. Getting up quality shots has been a problem for a lot of teams early on. Once those shots go up though it could be easy for a team to get second chances against the Orange, especially when Lydon is in. The Hoyas will need to crash the glass if they want to have control.
In halfcourt offense, what are the go to sets/plays?
The Orange have a lot of motion and set up their offense off of screens. Not only do they do this for open looks from three, but they have been doing it down in the paint as well.
Is rebounding an issue?
Rebounding and giving up second chance points will hurt this team all year long. If the Hoyas dominate the glass it will slow the Orange down.
