JT3 recruited pretty well ranking-wise up until the last two years. He just couldn't get the pieces to fit together & injuries ruined those teams.

We all know the 2014 class was nationally legit & he followed that up by getting Derrickson & Govan in 2015.

Guards that could create their own shot is probably more accurate
yeah that's the caveat frfr

Take the 2013-14 team after Otto left, that team wasn't held back by the guards.

What team would you say lacked guards prior to 2015-16?
2016 is when things started going off the rails though no?

Exactly right, that's why I used that year.

Prior to then I never saw guard play as the issue. On the other hand, Moses, Hopkins, Smith, and Hayes weren't skilled enough to play in the PO.

He was the leader(best player) on the 2014-15 team which came in 2nd in the BE & was top 25 all year though Ron
yeah...and couldn't make plays or get to rim. or defend

I'll say jt3 did a good job of managing what he could and couldn't do

you really think dsr was that guy?

DSR was a beast on the boards his junior year

not so much senior year oddly

yeah his senior year was odd. my belief is being the man was not really in his wheelhouse in big east

that said on last 2 Hoya edition would have been most impactful guy

That guy? No, but he was a very good college player
I'd add very good when coupled with others

his slowness and lack of defense were glaring. didn't really share game either

but could shoot it. and loved doing that haha

again would have been the prime contributor last 2 years

He had his limitations but overall he was a very good college player.

DSR would have been the best guard & probably the best player of the Ewing era

I checked his advanced stats his assist % was over 20% in each of his last 3 seasons. 5.2 per game his senior year in conference play.

Now we are downgrading DSR…guy was first team all big East and second team twice and the 5th leading scorer in the history of Georgetown basketball. But yeah all the makings of a 3rd or 4th option…Ridiculous statement.

DSR was a bucket but role matters. He’s good enough on O to put up numbers no matter the position but in the team concept he was better as a 2 and as a 3rd scorer on a top tier team.

On a side note I think folks get stuck on scoring when it comes to the best player debate. Jamorko was the best player on the team his Senior year and the 3rd option on offensive. Defense, glass work, leading, identity matter also imo. Personally I though Bril was the best player on the 2015 team.

You take dsr off that team they aren’t a tourney team .. brill brought something they didn’t have which was toughness and a guy who could guard … dsr was a really good college player that was a bucket like you said .. downgrading dsr is crazy to me

What happened the year after Bril graduated and DSR was still there?

Just because you think more highly of him doesn’t mean I’m downgrading him. I think he’s a good player and certainly one of the best players on the team all 4 of his years. Just giving my honest opinion on his game.

Didn’t say you were downgrading him.. I’m a huge brill fan but running an offense through Bradley Hayes 30 feet from the basket didn’t help that year .. sophomores who were suppose to step up didn’t either.. dsr comment had nothing to do with you

I’m not trying to say scoring is a stand alone to define a guys impact but when you put up the numbers he did you should be viewed differently. We are trying to go back and identify what he would be for a “good” team? Guy repeatedly got buckets I find it funny he’s the 5th leading scorer in the history of the school but someone wants to go back in time and say he would be a 4th option on a “good” team. That makes me laugh.

scoring does get over focused on. particularly when they get forced fed out of necessity

The best team he played on he was the #3. When he was #1 we missed the tourney 2-3 seasons. It’s a team game so not blaming it on him, just saying…

We ran it through Josh Smith and Mikael the year prior so honestly don’t see that as the difference. The difference to me was having a guy like Bril who could break guys down and create for others . He was really good at that his senior year imo.

I agree Soph’s didn’t step up but having a playmaker at the point would have probably helped them get easier shots and possibly better results from them.
