We didn’t shoot it really well. We went 1-for-10 from three (in the first half) and you go
It’s a tough hill to overcome. What we needed to do was to hit some of those early open looks that we had. I thought that would have helped us tremendously.
It is what it is. We break it down, we try to get better in certain areas, and we keep it pretty simple. To be in sync takes time. It would have been a great year to do the foreign trip, I’ll tell you that.
There’s still plenty out there for people to get if they’re hungry. I like hungry guys. We still want them to stay hungry.

He was marked on the scouting report, it’s not like we just discovered him. But he hit some tough threes; if you go back and look at the shot chart and look at where some of those were taken from, it looked to me like some of those were from NBA and a couple beyond. Give the guy credit.
We were playing from behind. If they’re not shooting free throws then are you going to waive the white flag? Where are you from? We’re going to play hard so they called fouls. That’s why they went to the line, and that’s why we’ve led the country so many times in making more free throws than the other teams shoot because there are years where we play we the lead a lot. Not this year yet. We’re working on that.
Some of those shots could have been better shots, but he was trying to make plays. We were struggling a little bit in making plays, so at least he was aggressive enough to try and make things happen when we weren’t getting it from some other spots. When you do that it kind of takes the guy out of his comfort zone.
We had four in the first half and we ended up with way too many because we tried to play fast. We’re not that fast.

We never try to make it personal. Smith-Rivera was pointed out on the scouting report just like everybody else. (Showalter’s) teammates gave him some pretty good help too. Showy did a great job and his teammates did an even better job of containing him.

They packed the paint extremely well…
I’ve been fortunate enough to play with Frank last year…with the attention he gained out there on the court. From watching him play, the things he did, and the patience he had, I’ve tried to replicate that as much as I can and not force the issue too much. I had three turnovers today…for the most part I try to stay patient.

It was definitely tough once we got within reach and they would hit a three, but at the same time that three should not have indicated how we played after that. We let down our guard just a little bit after they would hit a three. We just have to keep (being) consistent.

I thought the whole game it was really tough for me to get in the flow. I thought they took a lot of stuff away from me and made it hard for me to get anything and I was just out of rhythm; none of my shots felt good.
My shot was off the whole game.
on hoya penetration
They’re a really scrappy group of guys. I thought we contained dribble penetration for a while pretty well and then their big guy would step out and hit NBA threes. That’s tough to defend.
This is expected. It’s still really early in the season and I think we’ve taken strides. We contained dribble penetration better than we have the past couple of games, especially against guys like Smith-Rivera and LJ Peak who can get into the lane just about whenever they want. I think there were some positives to come out of it, but it’s hard to stop guys going 7-for-10 from three.
I thought it was alright. We had some hand check fouls…I thought we contained them pretty well just those

It was just hard to defend when we’re trying to squeeze the court and they kick it out. It’s tough.
